To the residents of Surrey Township and those who have family members at the Surrey Township Cemetery, an explanation of the current condition of the cemetery is respectfully due you. Regretfully, numerous trees were required to be removed from the cemetery. The trees (primarily Silver Maple) were diseased beyond saving and had become a safety hazard. Unfortunately, the remaining Silver Maple trees show serious signs of disease and will eventually be removed as well. The cemetery’s new look will be completed in the spring of 2013, wood chips from stump grinding will be removed and top soil/seeding will occur where needed. We appreciate your understanding, the decision to remove the trees was difficult and we will all miss the beautiful canopy they provided.
Sincerely, the Surrey Township Board
